Introduction to Guitar |

For the complete beginner. In this class you will learn basic picking
and strumming techniques. By the end of the session, you will have a
small repertoire of tunes, and several chords under your belt.
You’ll be able to accompany
a variety of vocal songs. |

Prerequisite: Introduction to Guitar or experience on other stringed
instruments.
Learn how to accompany any bluegrass or stringband song, and "hear"
chord changes in a song. In this class, you will learn basic "bass
runs" and you will learn basic lead melodies to standard tunes. |

II |
Instructor: Roy Farwell
Prerequisite: Guitar I or equivalent experience.
For intermediate students with basic skills, sharpen your skills by
adding chords, keys, runs, and tunes to your repertoire. Learn old-time
and bluegrass runs and leads, and even try some finger-picking. Designed
to prepare you for ensembles, jams, flatpicking, and other specialty
guitar classes.

Instructor: Dave Montgomery
Prerequisite: Guitar II or equivalent experience. Ability to learn
short phrases by ear.
Explore flatpicking techniques, complex fiddle tunes and standard bluegrass
songs, and the principles in approaching solos. Develop a “library”
of guitar licks. |

Contemporary Folk Guitar

Ron Hendrix
Prerequisite: Guitar II or equivalent experience. Able to
form and change basic first-position chords at moderate speeds.
As the folk movement grew in strength in North America, so did its
style and flair. Learn what makes folk music "folk" in today's
terms through the music styling of such artists as Joan Baez, James
Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Jim Croce, Tracy Chapman, Simon & Garfunkel
and many others.

Prerequisite: Guitar II or equivalent experience.
Learn the basics of the blues, Chord progressions,
riffs and turnarounds, moveable scales, call and response. We will
be studying styles of blues such as 12 Bar, Delta, Texas, Chicago and
Swing using such artist as BB KIng, John Lee Hooker, Big Bill Broonzy,
Albert Collins and many more. |
